The DAISEY Group knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives. In 2018, a small group of individuals had an idea to give back to the Appalachian Community and support LGBT+ students in need. The group envisioned an annual fundraising event to bring together LGBT+ individuals and allies from across North Carolina to celebrate our community's diversity, share our stories, and raise funds for young LGBT+ adults facing immediate financial devastation.

The group quickly grew, and we hosted our first fundraiser on April 6, 2019 at Appalachian State University's Solarium. The event featured live music, a keynote address and hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. We shared stories, made new friends, and raised thousands of dollars for an important cause.

Following our first event our group saw an immediate, positive response from the community, as well as rapid growth. Our Board's membership more than doubled, we established an online presence, we expanded our donor lists, and began planning for our next fundraising event, Cocktails and Conversations.
